Weekly Wrap-Up & Giveaway Poll

My very first giveaway ended Tuesday, and I'm excited to announce the winner was Brooke S. Brooke...I hope you enjoy your 2014 Memphis City Saver Discount Book and rack up all sorts of savings! I will deliver the book to you one day this upcoming week.

I must say I was a little surprised and even a slight bit disappointed that the giveaway didn't receive more interest. I'm the type to never give anyone a gift that I don't think I'd truly enjoy myself, and the same goes with any giveaways I might do. Before deciding to do the City Saver giveaway, I ask several friends their opinions, and they all said they thought the book would be a great prize.

Next up on the Weekly Wrap-Up was another bubble-buster for me this week. I don't mean to be and am usually not a Debbie Downer, but I can't help it peeps. That's just the way the chips fell this week. My boys, the Memphis Tigers, took a whoopin' by the UConn Huskies. We've still got March Madness and the dance to go. It seems, though, that every time the Tigers get railed, they come back motivated and strong. Both times they've beat Louisville, they'd just previously suffered an excruciatingly painful and humiliating loss. Hopefully, the awful loss to the Huskies will be a wake-up call.

It was wonderful to have a nice Spring-like week last week after having been out of school the whole week before due to ice and snow.

The Winter that Will Not Die

However, I absolutely can't believe the forecast for tonight includes chances of snow. sleet, and thunder just like two weeks ago. Really...Mother Nature? We're in the South for cryin' out loud, and the first official day of Spring is Thursday.

Typical "Wendy" Moment

Uhhmm...well...there's nothing like rolling out a giveaway on Tuesday that was actually supposed to go live as the first entry for a new weekly post series titled

Bahama Breeze Night Out & Giveaway

Last Friday evening, I attended my first Memphis Bloggers get-together at Bahama Breeze. I know I'm a little behind on posting this, but better late than never. I so enjoyed finally meeting some of the ladies whose blogs I've been following. The six of us met at Bahama Breeze because they invited us to try (completely on the house!) and review some of their new items which included rice bowls and items from their new happy hour menu. But best of all, Bahama Breeze is hosting an awesome opportunity for us to giveaway a "Cocktail Hour Party". They are offering the winner of our giveaway 1 hour of free appetizers and 1 free cocktail per person for up to 20 people. This giveaway is only available at the local Memphis-Wolfchase location and will end May 5th. So...don't hesitate...enter now! Just go to the Rafflecopter toward the end of this post to enter.  

I really wasn't completely sure about what to expect, but I had an amazing experience. The restaurant staff literally wined and dined us all. Each of us was able to order cocktails, appetizers, and entrees of our choice. I chose my favorite drink, their signature Bahamarita.

 
We then had some of their coconut shrimp and famous onion rings as appetizers.

We were then served one each of their six new international themed rice bowls: Shrimp Creole, Carnitas, Chipotle Beef, Vegetarian Asian Tofu, Asian Chicken and Vegetable, West Indies Chicken Curry. 

I would seriously recommend the Chipotle Beef and Shrimp Creole to anyone. The beef in the Chipotle Beef bowl was so tender it melted in my mouth. The Shrimp Creole was definitely tasty as well. We were offered dessert on top of everything else, but we all declined. YES...we were crazy...I know! We could've all divided them up and brought a sampler home with us. On top of everything else they gave us a heap of complimentary small plate appetizer cards to use at anytime we like.

Our waiter was awesome, and he decorated each of our take-home containers differently so we would know whose was whose.

Pink Eyelet Dress, A Little Timberlake...and Five Guys!

Ha..it's not at all what some of you were thinking. Hey...minds over here! I had a maaarvelous spring break day yesterday! Our weather here in Memphis finally turned around, and we had an absolutely gorgeous day. My good friend Ashley and I met up at Marshall's after she finished work and headed to Jerry's Sno Cones (not a typo - that's how good ol' Jerry decided to spell it). If you live in the Memphis area and have never been to Jerry's, it's a MUST go. They have absolutely epic snowcones and other frozen delights. Here's their strawberry cheesecake deluxe.

From there, we hit Target where I got the 20/20 Experience...Timberlake's new CD.

 

Then, Ashley and I scooted on over to Old Navy where I purchased a darlin' eyelet dress that will be so darn cute with either a denim shirt or jacket! I also picked up a great khaki cargo jacket that's gathered at the waist and a St. Louis Cardinals t-shirt.

It's My Blog...And I'm Sticking to It

Well, I'm finally finished with all the tweaking, changing, and tweaking again! I've been using bits and pieces from different places to construct the "face" of my blog. Since different components were coming from different sources, they didn't all ge-haw a lot of the time which caused all the tweaking and re-tweaking. Finally this is it, and it's gonna stay this way...at least for a good little bit.

I want to give a HUGE shout out to Casey at Hot Bliggity Blog for all her tremendous help and patience. Look for Hot Bliggity's button in my sidebar. She has fabulous free backgrounds and also does custom work for very reasonable fees. 

As I was walking out of work a couple of days ago, I had this overwhelming feeling of satisfaction and contentment. I wasn't sure exactly why. I think it was because I'd had some great interaction and exchanges with my students. I'd also received a little "happy" from some classroom grandparents, Meme and Hoddy, who volunteered in my class last year. Even though I no longer have their grandson in my class, they're still always leaving me little treats to brighten my day...and fatten me up. They're both retired Memphis City school teachers and understand what it's like to be "in the trenches". They are also the sweetest couple ever! Here's the little treat I found on my desk that day.   

 

Our school also has the cutest Spring bulletin board up in our front entryway. It helps me make a cheerful entrance and exit each day. Isn't it darling?



Time to wrap this up. Have to get my behind in gear. I've got a Memphis Tiger's WIN to watch this afternoon!
